Fluffy Cow on the Move: Guy the Bison’s Yellowstone Adventures

Exploring Yellowstone Through the Eyes (and Hooves) of a Fluffy Travel Buddy.

This summer, Rich and I are once again living and working in Yellowstone National Park — and it’s been nothing short of magical. Every day offers wild beauty, unexpected moments, and a deep reminder to slow down and stay curious.

This year as well as last year we brought along someone new to join the adventure: Guy the Bison, our stuffed animal mascot and fluffy travel buddy.

Guy may be small, but he’s got big energy. From geysers to canyons, he’s been by our side (or in our backpack!) as we explore this incredible place. And honestly? He’s kind of a natural in front of the camera.

So, we’re sharing Guy’s Yellowstone photo journal — a playful and heartwarming series featuring fun facts, iconic views, and all the fluff-fueled charm you didn’t know you needed.

Scroll down to join the adventure and see Yellowstone through Guy’s eyes (and hooves).

📍 Calcite Springs

“Guy soaking in the volcanic vibes at Calcite Springs.”
Perched above the Yellowstone River, this overlook features steaming vents and dramatic cliffs. Guy thinks it's a top-tier photo op (and we agree).
💨 Lava flows + hydrothermal action = bison spa day vibes.

📍 Chocolate Pot

“Would you dip your hooves in the Chocolate Pot?”
This bubbling thermal feature looks like it came out of Willy Wonka’s factory, but it smells more like Yellowstone. Still, Guy posed like a pro.

📸 Guy at Chocolate Pot - “hmmm can I eat it?”

📍 Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

“Guy + Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone = Majestic vibes.”
Towering waterfalls, golden rock walls, and epic cliff views made this one of Guy’s favorite stops. The wind in his fluff was next level.

📍 Grand Prismatic Spring

“Extreme color ahead!”
Guy visited the Grand Prismatic Spring and saw what all the rainbow-hued hype was about. The colors come from heat-loving bacteria — but Guy swears he brought the sunshine.

📍 Grand Tetons

“Guy couldn’t skip the Tetons!”
Just south of Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons rise like something out of a dream. Guy sat quietly (for once), just taking it all in.

📍 Lamar Valley

“Guy in Lamar Valley = Bison among bison.”
Known for its wildlife, Lamar Valley felt like home. Guy spotted bison, bears, and maybe even a wolf — from a safe distance, of course.

📍 Mammoth Hot Springs

“Stone terraces, steam, and serious drama.”
Mammoth’s cascading formations look like frozen waterfalls, and Guy was all about the angles. Yellowstone never stops surprising us.

📍 Mud Volcano

“Earth’s weirdest jacuzzi.”
It’s messy, it’s smelly, it’s totally Yellowstone. Guy braved the stinky side of adventure at Mud Volcano — a bubbling, burping reminder that this place is alive.

📸 Guy thinking “that looks steamy”

📍 Old Faithful

“Nature’s fireworks, right on time.”
Guy waited patiently (sort of) for Old Faithful’s eruption, and it did not disappoint. A true Yellowstone classic, complete with steam and cheers.

📍 Outside Cody, WY

“Cowboy charm and bison pride.”
After leaving the park, we made a stop in Cody, Wyoming — and Guy fit right in with the western vibes and wide-open spaces.

📸 Guy enjoying getting out of the park

📍 Soda Butte

“A silent sentinel in the valley.”
Soda Butte is the ghost of a geyser — no longer active but full of character. Guy took a thoughtful moment here (and tried to look wise).

📸 “Take me to the Butte” Guy said.

🦬 Bonus Moment: Guy Meets the Real Deal

“Guy meets his wild cousins!”
One of our favorite shots: Guy with a real bison in the background. We kept our distance, but the moment was powerful — and perfectly poetic.

📸 Bison meet Bison…

🚐 Bonus Moment: Riding Shotgun

“Every great road trip needs a good navigator.”
Guy joined Rich in the front seat for one of our travel days through the park — scanning the horizon, calling out wildlife, and probably hogging the playlist.

What’s Next for Guy?

This may be the end of our Yellowstone series, but it’s only the beginning for Guy. He’s already eyeing the map and dreaming of new landscapes. 🗺️

We’d love your help deciding where he goes next!

Thanks for following along on this wild, fluffy adventure.

Until next time, keep exploring — and maybe bring a bison along for the ride.
